The World’s Youngest Entrepreneurs

“Book kids”

That’s what they call themselves. They are part of the largest recruiting internship in the entire world. They have better attitudes, work ethics, and goals than 99% of college students. In just a short 3 months, these students own their own business and make a personal profit anywhere from an average of $8,500 to $33,919. Are you seeing things? Nope, you’re not.

… So what do they do?

Every summer, thousands of college students venture out into the one of the most challenging and wild internships this world has to offer. They are recruited by an experienced dealer, trained during the Spring semester and sent to Nashville, Tennessee for a week of rigorous sales training at Southwestern’s corporate headquarters. This week is filled with motivational speakers, coaching from sales experts and hundreds of motivated, excited and passionate college students. After this high-powered week, students are then relocated to a sales area for the summer, where they utilize the training and tools given to them during Sales School. Their job is to market educational tools and study guides to help kids improve and stay ahead in school from the early ages of pre-school up to AP high school students. How do they sell it? They knock.

They work 80 hours a week, and visit up to 3,000+ families over a span of 13 weeks. They are taught the essentials: schedule, attitude, and demonstrations. Their schedule is a fine-tuned mechanism for success. They live with a host family along with 2 or 3 other Southwestern kids. They wake up at 5:59AM, take a cold shower, eat a hearty breakfast, do executive exercises, and are knocking by 7:59AM every morning. After 30 sales demonstrations to no less than 30 families, they end their day of work at 9:31PM, turn in their statistics for the day to their manager and hit the hay, only to wake up and do the same thing again the next day. They do this for 13 weeks straight.

After those 13 weeks and usually 2 weeks for personal delivery of products, they travel back to headquarters in Nashville, where they cash in their earnings to be converted into a personal check.

Your summer is truly what you make of it. If your work and success habits are average, so will your check. And vice versa. This past summer, the #1 first year sales representative made a gross profit of $33,191.00 while other students made $9,215.00. The #1 experienced dealer made a total of $65,104.00. Seriously, it’s simply amazing.

So what are the benefits of such a rigorous internship?

1. Confidence.
2. Helping others.
3. Facing challenges.
4. Serious resume building.
5. Priceless relationships.
6. Oh, and of course money.

The sky is truly the limit with Southwestern. This company is made of the most driven, passionate, and hard working people probably in the entire universe. They change thousands of lives every summer with a job. They give you the tools, advice, and platform for success, and it is up to the individual to achieve it. The perks are endless: all-expense paid trips to Mexico, professional conventions hosted by heroes, and success principles that will last an entire lifetime.

What makes me so sure of the credibility and pertinence of this internship and company? Because I did it.

My time with Southwestern was without a doubt a challenge, it put me in places I never thought I would be and inspired me beyond my years. It was completely scary, and pushed my every limit, but taught me things that I would never have learned. I will talk about my Southwestern experience in every job interview I will ever have, and I can honestly say that through this internships, my knowledge for my capacity to be successful is certain. The motivators, the leaders, and the friends that I have met through this experience have changed the course of my life indefinitely and for that, and what this company has taught me, I will be forever grateful.

Southwestern not only gives you limitless opportunities, monetarily and professionally, but it helps you grow and adjust to keeping your goals in everyday life exceptionally high. When you’ve done the hardest job in the world, it makes the collegiate learning curve a little more manageable. The Southwestern Advantage is an incredible opportunity and I recommend it’s experience to any student, from any background, searching for the person they want to become.
